Mellow, chill, folks making folk’s surf dreams, drinking away sorrows in a den by candlelight but in the end we’re all happy and the credits role and the sound of califone the reside in our minds. It’s inevitable. Life is more like an indie movie than most wish to confess but all this tension is dropped at the sound of this type of stuff. Replays of old times in some simplistic and artistic video compilation with feet moving around in a field, strands of hair falling in front of someone dear’s smile, and flickering aged film. Glorious illustrous goody.

they aren’t as obscure but probably not heard enough due to their similar familiar type of sound. Maybe I’m becoming more mainstream or maybe they are just damn sensational. Yummy voices and strumming that makes anyone want to be a junkie or this guitarists best friend, maybe both..?

..the facial hair is absolutely necessary there if you ask me

iceland impresses once more- oldy but goodie, i’ve had phases of obsession over the years. Will review more later but thought they deserved a mention again to be brought out of my musical past.

Mirah- sweet, a nice juxtaposition between being reserved and over the top. It’s loud, quiet, and surprisingly cute. If you aren’t endeared or don’t get caught by the melodies, keep trying because she does use a bunch of different approaches with each track. I’m a sucker for that high pitched squeeky voice thing- (broken social scene, cocorosie) and she’s worked that. Even her talky-singy parts almost have a lykke li sound. If regina spector and the moldy peaches had a baby, it would probably sound a lot like mirah- well, a sound baby. Her words are over annunciated. There’s a home feeling to some it. It’s soundtrack type stuff for sure. Mellow and melancholy without being sad, her emotions are pretty blunt and it’s like a good comfort food if you find yourself sharing a similar state. Her song, ‘Garden’ was used on So you think you can dance a few years ago but she hasn’t taken off due to it. It was a brilliant and artistic contemporary jazz peice that was dark, sexual, dramatic, and a season favorite. This was back in the time when i was a predator for sytycd. I’m glad when they use unknown artists and worthy music to allow the public to witness dance bringing it to life. There’s not much of a better way to be presented.

Her voice is soft, smooth, not the very first of its kind but it never seems to get old and the subtleties are the nicest element. This is the kind of gushy irresistable stuff that you could really touch someone with in a mixtape for romantic purposes- assuming we’re 17 and in the 90s or we’re one of the many that will remain 17 and in the 90s

It’s like light orbiting towards your ear. Stop paying attention and leave mirah playing. Eventually, your breathe will be deeper and longer without you even realizing. That’s a good sign for her. If yours isn’t, then you’re either really admirably relaxed at all times or you’re an uptight mis-music-understanding goon. Goodnight.

HER SPACE HOLIDAY

It’s subtley spectacular. A noteworthy impeccable lyricist running into reassuring repetitive chords or melodious indie music. They can slip easily past the radar with a sound that you can mistake for so many other bands, even more popular at one iconic bands that have a zillion immitations or happenstance clone bands, but these guys deserve to be inspected with a magnifying glass for the ears and a soulful candlelit heartbroken afternoon to get the justice they deserve. The minute tempo changes and additions, almost invisible buildup and rise and fall sequence in a lot of their songs is what jolts the sound into the psyche of it’s listeners. It’s a sneaky tedious addiction because many won’t understand it. They can seem mundane in sound but the lyrics are deep, original, diverse, relatable, and metaphoric yet not obvious. There are classical sounds and violins involved in tracks that incorporate a beat a some point and wind up your excitment and spiritual spasm effect. The tone of the good life or bright eyes, pretty much could be a cousin of connor oberst but not quite the same. I might be over affected by the fact that all the tracks seem to resonate with a recent personal situation but regardless of whether you are one of those listeners hearing the words and breaking down lyrics or just letting the sounds and rhythm take all.. there’s something here indulging your fancy! Give them a fair try, you won’t regret it.. but they won’t necesarily make you happy, just reserved with the issues you already have..
